Pork Sandwich Recipe - Portuguese Bifanas

Pork Sandwich Recipe  - Portuguese Bifanas

I remember when I was little,  my Father took me to a game or some street festival when I was in Portugal and of course, I was always  hungry, for I knew what I wanted to eat. I always around looked for the Portuguese style bifanas stand. I could always find it, for I just had to follow the aroma of garlic, butter and simmering pork. I just loved to gobble down one or two, Also, it was funny just watching my father eat and talk at the same time when it was about the game.

Making this dish really brings back so many memory's of long ago, mind you, my Mother did make them for me and they were just as good as the Food Stands. This is not just a regular  Pork sandwich, it is part of my life of good times and awesome memories with Family and Friends as I was growing up.

Now here it is for all to make and enjoy. Please let us know how did yours turn out, did you add anything to yours.

Recipe;

1 lb. or so - Pork loin

2 - Bay leaves
2  - Cloves garlic
1/4 Cup - Unsalted butter
1/2 Cup - Wine or beer
1/2 Tsp. -  Sweet paprika
1  Tbsp. - Olive oil

Hot sauce - As to taste.

Salt and pepper to taste.

In keeping with tradition I was using Pork Loin, but you can use Pork tenderloin if you want. Now the Portuguese sate this in pork fat and that gives it a full flavour to the meat, but you can use regular cooking oil if you want. If you can not find the pork fat in the market, then I would recommend you to first fry some bacon and use the oil.

Let the pork marinate go for at least one hour in your fridge, but overnight would be better. It is important to drain the liquid away from the pork in order for it to fry better. Also, do this about half an hour before you cook it because the meat will reach room temperature.

Here at this point, you can add extra wine or beer to the liquid of the marinade if you want it more on the liquid side and if you want a dipping sauce.

Now go ahead and add some other goodies to you sandwich. How about mushroom with onions, roasted peppers, cheese, or have it your way. As for me I like it the traditional way, just pork, sauce and bun.

              Now go ahead and enjoy.

Sloppy Joe's - Awesome

Sloppy Joe's  -  Awesome

Sloppy Joes  an awesome  North American  treat,  always good and everyone will always ask for more. So make sure that when you add it to the bun  that you pour it on thick for if it does not fall as you eat it then its not a sloppy Joes.  The Kids just love this because its messy and an adventure in eating,  never  seen one that did not like it.

I love this recipe because it is so easy and fast to make and it can be made ahead of time and  frozen  for a later date.  Also  try to add this to some pasta dish and just see how you would like it, better than any sauce that you have tried, just mmm,  mm  awesome

Please let me know how yours turned out or what did you add to it.

Recipe...

1 Lbs. - Med ground beef

1/4 Cup - Onions
1/4 Cup - Diced green pepper
1/4 to  1/2 Cup - Ketchup
2 to 3 Tsp. -  Brown sugar
1 Tbsp. - Soya sauce
1 Tsp. - Mustard
1/4 Cup - Water

Salt and pepper to taste

Options;
1/3 to 1/2 Cup - Tomato sauce
Diced carrots

For more information please see video - "Click To See Video"
*********************************************************************************************************

I like to use a medium  ground beef because the flavour comes out in a little bit of fat. Now you can use a lean ground and it will be just as good, but I would add more of the soya sauce.

Here I added  some green sweet pepper because some Children are more fussy when you try to add some veggies to there hamburger.  What can also be added here would be some diced carrots and it will be even better, try it by adding other things to your liking.

A good idea is so make a big pot of the sloppy Joe's and  separate it into bags according to your Household portions and freeze it for a later date.  It really freezes well.  Also try it on a pasta dish and see how you Family would like that.  One easy and fast dish with so many ways to serve it.

Remember if it does not spill over and make a mess as you bite it, then it's not a Sloppy Joe's. So go ahead and make a mess...

Meatball Sandwich - Awesome

Meatball Sandwich - Awesome

I just love this recipe because it is so easy to make and the taste is really awesome, and not to mention that because its baked its better for you without all that frying.  Make sure that you make some extra  for it will go fast.

Now I like my meatballs a little larger  and it does look very big on the beget,  but  believe me it all fits and I just enjoy  biting into it and getting the full flavor of the  savoury meat.

Let me know how yours turned out.

*********************************************************************************************************

Recipe.....

1 lbs. -  Med ground beef

1/2 Cup - Bread crumbs
3 Gloves - Minced garlic
1 Cup -  Tomato sauce -  Tomato Sauce - Homemade
1/2 Tsp. - Rosemary
1 Tbsp. -  Parsley
1 Tbsp. - Olive oil

Salt and pepper to taste.

Using regular tomato sauce;

Add
1/2 Tsp. - Basil
1/2 Tsp. - Oregano
1/2 Tsp. - Thyme

Now here you can add really whatever you like but please keep in mind that if you are making this for the Children then watch how spicy you make it. Also one thing I did not show on the video is that most of the time I make this ahead of time and let them stay over night in the fridge.

The size of the meatballs really depend on you. I for one like them to be a little larger for I like the meatball  overwhelmed the bread  so I can get the maximum full taste of the savoury meat.

Let the meatballs savoury slowly in the tomato sauce to get the full flavour of the tomato sauce to infuse into it. Give a turn every now and then, also if it becomes a little thick then add a bit of water, but just a bit at a time. Also if  you want you can make some extra for it freezes very well and you will be sure not to run out.

Add any type of cheese you want, after all it's your sandwich. Don't forget to  slid it under the grill for about 30 seconds or so, just to get the cheese "right on". I usually add the tomato sauce last after the grilling because I do not want to dry it out. Anyway you make it, make it yours.
